Unlike many main characters of Shônens, Edward Elric is far from being the most powerful character of the series. His quest for the Philosopher's Stone will lead to his interests converging with those of the army he works for, putting him at odds with formidable enemies. Unknowingly, Edward found himself involved in a huge conspiracy involving different nations as well as the corruption of many army officials.
For him, becoming a State Alchemist was like selling his soul to the devil in the hope of finding a cure through the army archives and their networks. His ardor comes from the fact that he is determined to allow his brother Alphonse to return to his original body. Of the two brothers, he is certainly the more impulsive. Many make fun of him because of his short stature, a subject to which he is particularly sensitive. His title of State Alchemist surprises everyone in the sense that a boy as young as 14 years old has been given military accreditation to attest to his rank. Both limbs were then replaced by the automail that Winry Rockbell will frequently repair.Įdward Elric is also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist because he uses a form of alchemy centered around minerals and, in particular, the metal of his automail which he uses for offensive purposes.
